Turkana Attack: What Really Happened at the Kenya-Ethiopia Border?

Turkana County – Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, has called on Kenyans to remain calm following reports of an attack on Kenyan fishermen by suspected Ethiopian militia at the Kenya-Ethiopia border.

Speaking after a church service, Omollo reassured the public that security forces have been deployed to stabilize the region. He also cautioned against the spread of unverified information regarding the number of casualties.

“Disregard the numbers being circulated because they are not accurate. We will provide the correct figures once all facts are verified, as there is a formal procedure to follow when confirming fatalities,” he stated.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also assured that diplomatic talks are underway to restore peace between the border communities, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens.

“We are aware of the ongoing border tensions. While communication in such incidents takes time, our teams are fully engaged to prevent further escalations,” Omollo added.

Calls for Accountability

Local leaders have condemned the attack, demanding justice for the victims and urging the government to ensure the safety of communities living along the border.

“This brutal and unprovoked attack has claimed lives. We urge the government to account for every life lost and take decisive action,” a Turkana lawmaker stated.

Investigations into the attack are ongoing, with officials working closely with their Ethiopian counterparts to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
