At least 46 people have died following a military plane crash on the outskirts of Khartoum, Sudan, on February 25, 2025. Among the victims is Major General Bahr Ahmed, a senior Sudanese military commander.
The Sudanese military reported that the aircraft went down while attempting to take off from Wadi Sayidna Air Base, north of Omdurman. The crash also injured at least 10 people and caused damage to multiple homes in the Karrari district. Emergency teams are still searching for victims trapped under the rubble.
Although the exact cause of the crash has not been officially confirmed, a military source told AFP that a technical malfunction was to blame. Sudan’s health ministry stated that some of the victims’ bodies were transferred to Nau Hospital in Omdurman, while injured civilians, including children, were rushed to nearby medical facilities.
Witnesses described a loud explosion followed by power outages in surrounding neighborhoods. The Karari Resistance Committee, a local volunteer aid group, confirmed that 10 bodies and several injured individuals had been transported to Al-Nao Hospital.
The crash comes amid ongoing tensions between Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with both factions engaging in escalating confrontations.
