Tragic Shooting: Police Constable Kills Colleague After Bar Dispute in Nairobi

A police constable attached to the security detail of a CEO from a blue-chip company fatally shot his colleague following a heated argument outside a bar in Ruaraka, Nairobi County.

Deadly Confrontation Turns Fatal

The deceased officer, Constable Raphael Kimilu Wambua of the General Service Unit (GSU), was leaving the club with his brother and another officer when a quarrel erupted. The dispute, which started around 1:30 am on Saturday, February 22, quickly escalated into a physical altercation.

Eyewitnesses report that as the fight intensified, the suspect drew his firearm and shot Wambua, killing him on the spot.

Mob Justice & Police Intervention

After the shooting, the armed constable attempted to flee but was cornered by angry members of the public, who subjected him to mob justice. Officers on night patrol from Ruaraka Police Station arrived in time to rescue the suspect and rush him to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Wambua’s body was taken to Kenyatta University Mortuary as investigations into the incident continue.

Rising Concern Over Police Mental Health

This tragic case adds to the growing concerns over mental health struggles within the police force, which have led to an increase in deaths among officers.

To address this crisis, authorities have introduced counseling services, while the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has set up a specialized mental health unit to support officers.
