The National Treasury has proposed an additional Sh88 billion budget, with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) set to receive Sh17 billion to facilitate salary increments for educators. This allocation aims to address long-standing demands for pay adjustments and resolve issues related to unpaid insurance debts that have affected hospital services for teachers.
The proposed budget also includes Sh6.5 billion for higher education, specifically Sh4.3 billion to settle the 2021-24 collective bargaining agreement for university lecturers and non-teaching staff. Additionally, police officers are allocated an extra Sh5 billion, with Sh2.1 billion designated for international peacekeeping missions, including the Haiti deployment. Prison officers are also among the beneficiaries of the additional funds.
