Ruto Defends Isiolo-Mandera Road Project Amid Criticism

President William Ruto has reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing the 750-kilometer Isiolo-Mandera road project, a key infrastructure development aimed at transforming Northern Kenya.

Speaking on Tuesday, Ruto emphasized that the road is essential for bridging the development gap in historically marginalized regions.

“I recently visited Northern Kenya and launched a major road project stretching from Isiolo through Wajir to Mandera. Some people might dismiss it as a joke, but in this country, we sometimes take critical issues too lightly,” Ruto stated.

He reassured Kenyans that his government is fully committed to delivering the project, noting that the region has been neglected for far too long.

His remarks were in response to online skepticism about his understanding of the road and the towns along its route.

Government Stands Firm on Infrastructure Development

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also defended the project, insisting that the government is focused on timely delivery of key infrastructure.

“I accompanied the President to Northern Kenya, and some people mocked the long road project he announced. However, I welcomed their skepticism because I have information they don’t—this road will be built,” Kindiki said.

He dismissed online criticism, affirming that construction is already in progress and will be completed before 2027.

“Our focus is on delivering results, not engaging in debates. This project is not just talk; it is happening,” he asserted.

The Isiolo-Mandera road is expected to enhance connectivity, boost trade, and improve security in the region, marking a significant step in the government’s agenda to uplift marginalized areas.
