Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sparked controversy after banning President William Ruto from visiting Meru County.
Speaking during a public event, Gachagua warned Ruto against setting foot in the region following the alleged mistreatment of Chief Justice Martha Koome, who hails from Meru.
“Ukifukuza Martha Koome, usijaribu kukanyaga Meru,” Gachagua declared, hinting at a growing rift between him and the president.
His remarks come amid rising political tensions between the executive and the judiciary, with claims that the government is frustrating judicial independence.
Political analysts say this move could further strain relations within Kenya Kwanza, as divisions between Ruto and his former deputy become more pronounced.
Ruto has yet to respond to the ban, but his relationship with Gachagua remains under scrutiny as 2027 politics take shape.
