Makadara MP George Aladwa has warned that ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna could soon be ousted from his position, comparing him to former party official Ababu Namwamba, who was previously removed from the role.
Aladwa’s Warning to Sifuna
Speaking on Saturday, February 22, 2025, Aladwa claimed that Sifuna’s influence in ODM is diminishing, and his exit from the party is inevitable.
“I want to warn Sifuna, the one calling himself the Secretary-General of ODM. We’ve had many before—he’s not the first. Ababu left, and he will also leave. He should stay away from me. He has insulted me a lot, but I want to tell him that his days in ODM are numbered,” said Aladwa.
Allegations of Links to Gachagua
Aladwa further alleged that Sifuna is working with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and is being positioned for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat under a different political faction.
“Sifuna is being used by Gachagua. Even during the impeachment process, he acted reluctantly. We know he is Gachagua’s candidate for the governor seat. He was even spotted with Gachagua, Waititu, and Kalonzo in Kawangware recently. He should stop deceiving people—he has already left ODM,” Aladwa claimed.
Sifuna’s Response
The Nairobi Senator had earlier criticized Aladwa and other ODM leaders for their support of the Kenya Kwanza government. Speaking on Thursday, February 20, 2025, Sifuna dismissed the claims and maintained that he would not support President Ruto in the 2027 elections, regardless of ODM’s position.
“In ODM, everyone has a right to speak their mind. Aladwa has one vote, and I have one vote. Let him cast his for Ruto—I will not,” said Sifuna.
Growing Tensions in ODM
These remarks highlight deepening divisions within ODM, with internal conflicts over party loyalty and political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
