Tragic End: Missing City Hall Intern Elvis Munene Found Dead

New details have emerged regarding the tragic fate of Elvis Munene, a City Hall intern who was reported missing on January 29. His body was discovered at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) mortuary, where he had been transferred after succumbing to injuries sustained while receiving treatment in the hospital’s ICU.

Mob Justice Incident in CBD

Investigations reveal that Munene was a victim of mob justice in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD). According to police findings, he had met up with a friend, Keith Chacha, after leaving work. The two then proceeded downtown to buy a phone cover when they encountered police officers who arrested them.

Munene allegedly fled from the officers, but bodaboda riders near Kirinyaga and Charles Rubia Road mistook him for a thief and subjected him to a brutal beating.

Eyewitness accounts provide more insight into the incident.

“It was around 6 p.m. He was with about four other men who seemed like friends as they headed downtown. I left briefly for some errands, and by the time I returned, I found he had been beaten,” recounted boda rider Charles Kamende in an interview with Citizen TV.

Another eyewitness, Edward Mwangi, narrated that there had been a phone-snatching incident in the area.

“As he was running, people caught up with him and started beating him. The police intervened and stopped the attack. Shortly after, an ambulance arrived and took him away,” Mwangi stated.

Police Investigations Ongoing

Authorities are conducting further investigations to establish the exact events leading to Munene’s death. His friend Chacha is expected to be questioned to shed more light on the matter.

This incident has sparked concerns over mob justice in Nairobi, with calls for improved public awareness and law enforcement interventions to prevent similar occurrences.
