Stolen AK-47 Rifle Recovered in Eldoret Lodging After Nakuru Robbery

Police have recovered an AK-47 rifle that was stolen from an officer in Kaptembwo, Nakuru County. The firearm, which was loaded at the time of the robbery, was found on Wednesday, February 19, in a lodging in Huruma Estate, Eldoret—two days after it went missing.

Authorities managed to recover the weapon after arresting a suspect, who later led detectives to the location. The rifle is now in police custody as investigations continue to apprehend more suspects.

According to law enforcement officials, the stolen firearm was allegedly intended for criminal activities.

The incident began when a police officer failed to return his firearm to the armory on the night of February 17. He and a colleague had been issued weapons for patrol duty, but he failed to return his after the shift.

The officer later claimed that during patrol, he briefly left to visit his residence in the area. While there, he encountered two men in Mosaik who introduced themselves as fellow police officers. They accompanied him to a bar and later to his house. However, he later lost consciousness, only to wake up in the morning and find both men—and his loaded rifle—gone.

Investigators believe the officer may have been drugged to facilitate the theft. An immediate search of the area yielded no results, prompting a deeper probe that eventually led to the recovery of the weapon.
