Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has alleged that Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
In a statement on Monday, February 18, Thang’wa stated that Koimburi was taken into custody, but authorities had not disclosed the reason for his arrest.
“DCI at it again. They have arrested Juja MP George Koimburi. Reason? They are yet to say!” Thang’wa remarked.
Preliminary reports suggest that the lawmaker was apprehended at his home and later taken to the DCI headquarters for questioning. His arrest follows his recent claims that the government allegedly spent Ksh13 billion in its bid to secure the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding Koimburi’s detention.
