Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended four individuals suspected of raiding Elmarba Full Gospel Missionary Church in Kajiado, where they allegedly robbed a Korean missionary couple.
According to a statement released on Monday, February 17, the robbery took place on February 10 at around 3 AM. The suspects reportedly broke into the church compound, which also housed the couple’s residence. They gained entry by cutting the window grills before storming inside.
The attackers tied the victims, aged 64 and 60, using manila ropes and ransacked the house. Among the stolen items were four Samsung mobile phones, two laptops, a wristwatch, a bracelet, a golden necklace, and a solar charger. Additionally, they coerced the couple into revealing their mobile money PINs and transferred Ksh 260,000 before tampering with the CCTV system and making their escape.
The Elmarba Assistant Chief reported the incident, prompting detectives from Oloililai, supported by the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), to launch investigations. A forensic analysis of the crime scene provided crucial leads, ultimately leading to the arrest of the four suspects.
The arrests were made during operations in Mukuru Kwa Reuben and Mlolongo. The individuals taken into custody were identified as Daniel Momanyi Ombati, Mutua Mang’eli Masesi, Nicodemus Kioko Mwangangi, and Silas Obwogi. Authorities recovered several items from the suspects, including two TV sets, two projectors, three mobile phones, two crowbars, a hacksaw, and a steel cutter.
The victims positively identified the suspects, who were later presented in court on Monday. Detectives sought custodial orders as investigations continue to track down the remaining members of the gang.
