A group of women leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) gathered at Nairobi’s Bomas of Kenya for a prayer session to support Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position. The event, titled “Women Praying for Baba,” aimed to rally spiritual support for the former Prime Minister as he prepares for the AUC elections scheduled for February 15 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In a public invitation, the ODM Women League urged supporters to join the session, emphasizing their confidence in Raila’s leadership and his vision for continental unity and development. “We stand in faith, believing in his commitment to Africa’s progress,” the statement read.
Raila Odinga, a veteran Kenyan politician and ODM leader, is vying to become the next AUC Chairperson, a role that would position him to influence continental policies and collaborations. His bid has drawn widespread backing from allies, including ODM governors, senators, and members of parliament, many of whom attended the prayer gathering.
The event highlighted the party’s grassroots mobilization efforts and the significance of spiritual support in political endeavors. If elected, Raila would be the first Kenyan to hold the AUC’s top position, marking a pivotal moment for both the nation and the African Union.
