Kenyans are mourning Elijah K’Oranga, a retired Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier, after his emotional photos at the memorial of former military chief General Francis Ogolla touched hearts nationwide. K’Oranga died almost a year after Ogolla lost his life in a helicopter crash in April 2023.
Last year, photos of K’Oranga crying at Ogolla’s memorial service spread quickly online. Many praised him as a symbol of loyalty and love for his country. The retired soldier, who once played football for the Ulinzi Stars team, left the military just four months before his death.
His son shared a heartfelt message, calling his father a “quiet hero” who cared deeply for his family and Kenya. “He taught us strength and kindness,” he wrote.
Kenyans on social media praised K’Oranga’s service and shared stories of his humility. His life—linking sports, military duty, and family—has become a reminder of the sacrifices made by Kenya’s soldiers.
