Kenya is on high alert following the confirmation of an Ebola outbreak in neighboring Uganda. The first confirmed case in the capital, Kampala, resulted in the death of a male nurse on Wednesday, marking the ninth Ebola outbreak in Uganda since the disease was first reported in 2000.
The nurse, who worked at the Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, had initially sought treatment at multiple medical facilities, including Mulago, before consulting a traditional healer after developing fever-like symptoms. Despite medical efforts, the patient’s condition worsened, leading to multi-organ failure. He passed away at Mulago National Referral Hospital on January 29.
Post-mortem tests confirmed that the nurse had contracted the Sudan strain of the Ebola Virus Disease. The Ugandan Ministry of Health has issued a statement, confirming the strain and urging increased vigilance and health monitoring in the region.
Authorities in Kenya are closely monitoring the situation, with heightened measures to prevent the spread of the virus across the border.
