Authorities in Kitengela have launched an investigation after the body of an unidentified man was discovered dumped at Kitengela Junction on Monday, February 3, 2025. The grim discovery has sparked concern among locals and raised questions about rising cases of violent crimes in the area.

Details of the Incident

The deceased, believed to be around 30 years old, was found with visible injuries, including a deep cut on his leg and marks of strangulation on his neck. Witnesses reported that his legs appeared to have been tied together before he was abandoned at the scene.

The body was discovered in the afternoon at a riverbed along Mombasa Road, near the Athi/Kitengela River Interchange. Locals who gathered at the scene expressed shock and fear over the incident, prompting them to alert the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

After documenting the scene and collecting evidence, police moved the body to a nearby morgue for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death or identify the victim. They are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Recent Cases of Dumped Bodies

This incident adds to a growing list of disturbing discoveries in recent weeks. On January 25, 2025, human body parts were found stuffed in a sack and dumped in the Mathare River near Riverside Bridge in Kariobangi. The remains, discovered by a street child, were missing key parts, including the head, arms, and legs.

Just days later, on January 28, the decomposing body of a middle-aged man was found in a thicket on the outskirts of Kakamega town. The body, discovered unclothed with a sack nearby, was severely swollen, and the head was reportedly skinned. Locals speculated that the victim might have been a domestic worker who had gone missing days earlier.

In another case, on January 15, the body of a young man was spotted floating beneath a bridge opposite Astro Petrol Station. A well-wisher retrieved the body, which was dressed in a red sweater and black shorts, with bare legs.

Rising Abduction Cases in Kenya

These incidents coincide with a surge in reported abductions across the country. According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), at least 82 abduction cases have been recorded since June 2024, when youth-led protests against the Finance Bill began.

In the last three months of 2024 alone, 13 abductions were reported, with seven occurring in December. The whereabouts of six young Kenyans, believed to have been abducted by state security officers, remain unknown, leaving their families in anguish.

While security agencies have denied involvement, President William Ruto vowed on December 27, 2024, to address the abductions and restore public trust in national security. However, details on specific actions remain scarce.

Calls for Action

The recent spate of violent crimes and abductions has reignited calls for stronger measures to ensure public safety. Activists and human rights organizations are urging the government to take decisive action to curb the trend and hold perpetrators accountable.

As investigations into the Kitengela case continue, locals remain on edge, hoping for answers and justice for the victims.
