Tharaka Nithi Senator could be the next victim of the Jubilee party purge in Senate which is apparently applied to party members who happen to have dissented from its leader, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Senate is currently in session discussing the senator’s ouster from his post as the Senate deputy speaker, the new majority whip Senator Irungu Kang’ata vouching for the motion citing disloyalty.
Senator Kang’ata states the reason for the ouster is due to Kindiki’s truancy made good by him snubbing the May 11 PG meeting convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Even on failing to attend the meeting held at State House, Prof. Kindiki did not forward his apology, suggesting he had gotten wayward, the party leader taking offense.
It is for that reason that Jubilee is seeking to see the deputy speaker out of his post, successors believed to be loyal to the party, and its leadership already in the line.
Sympathizing with Hon. Kindiki, former ML Kipchumba Murkomen said the dismissal which is pushed by Jubilee is a show of travesty against independent institutions and generally democracy in the country.
“…I’m not here to mourn the fate of my friend Professor Kindiki because nothing can harm a good man in life or in death. I grieve and mourn the deterioration of our democracy…” Kipchumba Murkomen said.
Should the ouster succeed, Kithure will be joining Murkomen Kipchumba and Susan Kihika who were both stripped of their respective positions in the senate due to what pro-Uhuru legislators say is utmost disrespect to the party and its leader.
