Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has been on the latest headlines after his political party made a decision to remove from his position as the Majority Leader of the Senate. This decision also affected Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika who was removed from her role as the Majority Whip.
Born Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen in 1979 in Embobut Forest Village, Elgeyo-Marakwet, he is an alumnus of University of Nairobi with a Bachelors Degree in Law. He is also a graduate from the American University Washington College of Law in the USA.
Murkomen’s interest in politics is believed to have developed when he was in high school as he was elected to be the dining hall captain. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Kenya Law Society during his time at the University of Nairobi.
In 2012, he became a party member of United Republican Party in 2012 which later went on to merge with TNA to form the Jubilee Alliance. Through the Jubilee party ticket, he became the first senator of Elgeyo-Marakwet County,
Aside from politics, he was a lecturer at the Catholic University of East Africa, Moi University and the University of Nairobi. Murkomen has also partnered with few other learned friends to establish their law firm; Sing’oe, Murkomen & Sigei Advocates.
The Senator is married to Gladys Wanjiru, the mother of their three children; two sons and a daughter. He is also a devoted Christian believer and a follower of the Catholic church.
