Which Estates in Nairobi County Are Likely To Become Coronavirus Hotspots?

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced 8 estates in Nairobi County that are likely to experience a rise in coronavirus infections.

He made the announcement on Friday at his office noting that these estates have been flouting curfew rules. Matiang’i also noted that close contacts from the latest confirmed positive COVID-19 infections have come from the troublesome estates.

From tonight [Friday] we are going to turn up the heat because from the reporting of the positive cases today, you can tell the clustered estates which are now giving us problems and estates which are likely to become hotspots shortly.

And all of them have one characteristic, recklessness and disobedience to the guidelines being given by the Ministry of Health

Fred Matiang’i

Police are now expected to be patrolling those areas in civilian clothing so as to capture those defying curfew rules.

The list of the notorious estates are as follows:

  • Buruburu
  • Kilimani
  • Lang’ata
  • Ruai
