A Nigerian state officer has owed the deadly Coronavirus to corruption.
The officer identified as Ibrahim Magu and who runs the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) says corruption in his country has become the worst disease, forget the dreaded coronavirus which has become a universal epidemic.
Magu added the corruption menace has not only been a nuisance to Nigeria but also disturbing other African countries.
Speaking in a function graced by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, Magu could not hesitate to decry the vice which has lagged economies behind in a majority of African states.
“Corruption is a huge burden on our nations. It has spread insecurity, poverty, unemployment, falling of education standards, weak access to affordable health care, falling in infrastructure and so many others,” Magu said.
Magu went on to elaborate on how corruption is more worse than Ebola, HIV and AIDS, Cancer among many other horrible ailments in African history.
“Corruption is worse than all the diseases… I strongly believe that even Coronavirus is caused by corruption,” Magu claimed.
Coronavirus has become a concern the world over, the UN’s World Health Organization urging nations to prepare as the situation tends to worsen as time flies.
The death toll resulting from the virus has surpassed 2,000 people, with more than 70,000 cases of the infection being reported by Monday, February 17.
