Uganda presidential hopeful and kyaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has been released after hours of detention by the Uganda police.
The musician-cum-politician was arrested on Monday when he tried to force his way into the Our Lady of Good Counsel Secondary School where he was slated to hold a political rally.
Police were compelled to lob teargas to disperse supporters who tried to object Bobi wine’s arrest.
He was taken to Kasangati Police station, his release coming on the Monday night.
Bobi Wine is determined to unseat long-time serving Museveni who also announced to contest for another term in the coming polls.
The Kyaddondo East legislator wrote in several occasions to the Electoral Commission informing the body of his intended meetings.
Section 3 of the Presidential Elections Act provides that anyone who aspires to become president can write to the EC and thereafter go around the country consulting citizens about his/her intentions. So in light of this, I am going to interact with Ugandans about the intentions to run for President.Bobi Wine.
Wine announced his release emphasizing he will not relent in the initiatives to change his nation’s leadership.
“Good evening comrades! As usual, these cowards have released us in the deep of the night. These illegal injustices only make us stronger, but most importantly reveal to us how scared the regime is of WE THE PEOPLE.
Stronger. THANK YOU ALL FOR STANDING. Aluta Continua. #TeliKuziKiza.” Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine will be taking on President Museveni in the forthcoming elections. Museveni is currently in an expedition in one of the forests in Uganda which his troops used to hide while pursuing the mission to overthrow Milton Obote.
