Two People Die In Nakuru-Eldoret Highway Accident

Two passengers in a North Rift Matatu perished in a road accident at Equator Trading Centre on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway at 11:30 pm on Friday.

Rashid Ali, Rift Valley traffic enforcement officer, said the crash involved the 14-seater North Rift Sacco, a truck and a Land Cruiser.

According to the officer, the matatu was heading to Eldoret from Nairobi before it collided with a truck that was moving in the opposite direction. The Land Cruiser rammed into the vehicles from the rear side.

It is reported that the truck driver overtook several vehicles before colliding with the oncoming vehicle. Two women in the matatu died in the crash while eight others in the same matatu sustained injuries.

Assistant Chief, William Mm’aitsi, who was at the scene along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway reported that the vehicles were extensively damaged.

Some of the injured passengers were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret, and others were rushed to Eldama Ravine Sub-County Hospital. The deceased bodies were moved to Eldama Ravine Sub-County mortuary.

The accident caused heavy traffic along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway before the wrecked vehicles were towed away to Timboroa Police Station.
