Teacher Dies, Eight Pupils Injured After Two School Buses Collide Head-on In Kirinyaga

A private school teacher has died and eight pupils and a school manager have sustained serious injuries after two school buses collided head-on at Tokyo stage along Kagio-Baricho road in Ndia, Kirinyaga County.
The buses involved in the collision are from Kutus Municipality primary school in Mwea and Trinity Academy in Ndia. The accident occurred during the morning rush hour while picking and dropping off students at school.

Eyewitnesses report that the driver of one of the buses lost control while attempting to overtake the other bus, which was picking up a student. “We tried what we could where good Samaritans rushed the pupils to different hospitals in Kirinyaga County,” said Grace Kanini, an eyewitness.
Police officers from Baricho, Sagana, and residents living along the road took over an hour to free a female school manager who was trapped in one of the school buses. “We helped the school manager, but unfortunately, a teacher had died,” said a senior police officer.

The manager of Trinity Academy has been admitted to Kagio nursing home with severe injuries, while the eight pupils are receiving treatment at Kerugoya hospital. The deceased teacher’s body has been taken to Kerugoya hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
The two buses have been towed to Sagana police station awaiting inspection.
