A stolen eight-foot gorilla statue, nicknamed Gary, has potentially been spotted in England. The statue was taken from Reynard’s Nursery near Carluke, Lanarkshire, and the owners have since launched an appeal to have it returned. CCTV footage showed the thieves unbolting the large fibreglass mascot before making off with it in the back of a van.

Now, there is a possible sighting of Gary on the M40 near Warwick services. The owners of the garden centre are asking anyone passing by to keep an eye out for the statue, which is similar in appearance to the stolen gorilla, on the back of a black pick-up heading north.

Owner Andrew Scott said thieves pulled up in a white van before unbolting Gary from the ground and putting him inside

Gary, who had been a fixture outside the garden centre for a decade, had become a popular attraction among customers and locals alike. The statue was regularly dressed up in current affairs-themed costumes, donning PPE throughout the pandemic, and even a Santa hat at Christmas.
