Nairobi’s first governor Dr.Evans Kidero has come out to remind his successor Mike Sonko and Nairobians in general that running a county of Nairobi’s stature was not and wouldn’t be easy as mistakenly thought.
Kidero seemed to be commenting on the scenario that Nairobi City County has handed its running to the national government, pursuant to Article 187 of the 2010 Constitution.
Troubled governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday signed the agreement with the national government with Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa as its signatory in the presence of President Kenyatta
The pact is about the central government to oversee the running of Nairobi County’s four key services.
Kidero now says the county needed a person with unarguable know-how to successfully run the services therein.
The agreement may however not go as planned as activist Okiya Omtatah will be seeking to challenge the decision to hand the county to national government basing his objection on constitutionality.
The activist says neither the Nairobi County Assembly nor the National Assembly was consulted before reaching the agreement.
