A sad yet shocking story, written by the People’s Daily, has left Kenyans talking and lamenting at how inhuman some Nairobians can be.
A middle-aged man is reported to have been pickpocketed after he collapsed and died yesterday afternoon near the footbridge in Roysambu along Thika Road.
According to the accounts of the witnesses, the young man was walking before he slowed down and sat on the pavement then collapsed.
“I saw him coming. He was eating some biscuits and then he sat down. We thought he was drunk because he was walking slowly. He then sat down and collapsed which drew us closer as we tried to help. Some of my friends thought he was epileptic and so we started giving him first aid until the police came and told us he was dead,” said a matatu tout who was plying the route.
Police officers attached to the Kasarani regional base pronounced him dead after they arrived.
“The man is dead but we cannot tell what killed him, the biggest challenge is identifying him because he has already been robbed,” said one of the officers.
Police officers have had a tough time to identify the man or to get into contact with his family members since locals had already stolen his personal property before he died.
His phone was later recovered from a bystander who confessed to have taken it from his pocket. The officers plan to use information from his phone to trace his close relatives for body identification.
