Preparations have been underway at the final resting place of former president Daniel Moi in his Kabarak home in Nakuru County.
It was Moi’s wish to be laid to rest near his wife Lena Moi who passed away in July 2004. The grave is behind Mzee Moi’s house which has already been dug and cemented ready for the burial ceremony on Wednesday, February 12.
Security has been reported to have been beefed up at various points within the residence. Family members and close relatives are the ones confirmed to access the gravesite.
Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said that preparations have been done and that the State is ready to give the former president a send-off. He also added that the grounds at Kabarak will host 30,000 people.
During the burial ceremony, Mzee Moi will be honoured with a 19-gun salute rather than a 21-gun salute which is reserved for presidents who die while still in power.
