One Killed in Tribal Clashes on Nandi-Kakamega Border

One person has been killed with five other sustaining serious injuries after tribal clashes erupted along the Nandi-Kakamega border over a land dispute.

Trouble began when two families in Kataniin village, Nandi North, disagreed over a piece of land. This disagreement between Patrick Angasi and Samuel Rono later escalated into a tribal clash.

Livestock belonging to Mr Rono was reported to have strayed into Igoli sub-location where it was suspected to be in Angasi’s place. Some residents from Kataniin village crossed the boundary to look for the livestock and confronted the residents from Igoli community which sparked the fight.

Police officers from Kufasali police post tried to quell the fight but were overwhelmed forcing them to call for reinforcement from Malava Police station.

Nandi police boss Anthony Shimoli reported one 25-year-old man died in the clash.

A man identified as Bonface Kiprotich died after being shot on the left side of the chest and the right leg below the knee.
