Olympic champion Conselsus Kipruto was today arraigned before a Kapsabet court in Nandi County for allegedly defiling a 15-year old girl.
Kipruto denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh 200,000. The steeplechase champion, who himself is also a police officer, is alleged to have committed the offence on October 20th.
The officer went into hiding for some time after he heard that the police were on his radar. Kipruto was arrested on 11th November after being on the run from the authorities.
Police officers are accused of attempting to prevent journalists from covering Kipruto’s arraignment. He appeared before the magistrate via Zoom after being escorted to the courts under tight security.
The Prosecution claims the 25-year-old athlete eloped with the teenager prompting the parents to report the incident at Mosoriot police station.
The case was scheduled for hearing in May 10, 2021 after Kipruto released after paying the cash bail as per the court orders.
