The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has given City Hall officials a 48-hour ultimatum to fix the garbage mess in the county or risk a jail term.
The environmental body gave the ultimatum through its Twitter page on Wednesday evening. It also directed Nairobi county officials to table a report on compliance of the same within seven days.

This ultimatum comes after garbage collectors contracted by City Hall downed their tools due to non-payment of wages. The frustrated workers took Nairobi’s CBD emptying bins onto the streets.
Nairobi County acknowledged their delayed wages despite the Finance and Environment departments blamed each other for being responsible for the mess.
Things have been left uncertain after the National government took over some key functions from Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
