Men Should Not Go Down On One Knee To Propose: Pete Edochie

Celebrated Nollywood actor Pete Edochie says that it is inappropriate for men to go down on one knee when they propose to their ladies.

According to him, the act is not part of the African doctrine and believes that it should be thrown away and not given any chance in the African culture.

Kneeling to propose to a woman is white people’s culture because women dominate there and have more right than men, it is not the African man’s ways

Edochie gave an example of himself when he proposed to his wife saying that he did not go down on one knee. He only mentioned that he took his time to woo her and when the time came to settle down, he simply asked is she would marry him. The marriage, according to him, has lasted 50 years.

I didn’t kneel to propose to my wife and we’ve stayed 50years in our marriage, I took my time to woo her, when it’s time to settle down, I asked if she’ll marry me and that was it

The Western act of kneeling while proposing dates back to the days of knighthood, and medieval times. According to Engagement Ring Bible, knights would get down on one knee in front of their lord as a display of respect, obedience, and loyalty.

It was also a common occurrence in religious ceremonies which meant that when a man was proposing to a lady, he was pledging his allegiance to her and declaring his undying love for her.

Do you agree with Pete Edochie? Should men stop getting down on one knee while proposing?
