Meet Remote Indian Island Inhabitants Who Kill Anyone Who Tries To Set Foot On Their Island!

The Sentinelese people, living on a remote island near India, have been known to kill anyone who tries to come ashore. This was evident on January 26, 2006, when two fishermen were killed by the tribe after their boat drifted near the island. The Indian coastguard tried to retrieve the fishermen’s bodies using a helicopter, but were greeted with a volley of arrows from the tribesmen, preventing them from landing.

This was not an isolated incident. On August 2, 1981, the ship Primrose grounded on the North Sentinel Island reef. Men on the shore carrying spears and arrows and building boats on the beach were noticed by shipmates on the immobile vessel. The captain radioed for a drop of weapons so that the ship could defend itself, but did not receive them. Luckily, heavy seas kept the islanders away long enough for the crew to be rescued by helicopter.

Even after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, the Indian government sent a helicopter to check on the inhabitants on the island. While other nearby islands were heavily affected, the Sentinelese appeared to have been unharmed. The helicopter observed several clansmen shooting arrows and throwing stones at the hovering aircraft with the intent of repelling it.

Believed to have lived in isolation on the island for 60,000 years, the Sentinelese number anywhere from 50 to 400 individuals. The deep tree canopy makes it difficult to observe them from the air, but based on limited observational data, they are assumed to be hunter-gatherers with no knowledge of agriculture.

In the words of T.N. Pandit, an anthropologist who has studied the tribe, “The most striking feature of the Sentinelese is their isolation and the fact that they have remained uncontacted for thousands of years.” It’s clear that the Sentinelese people have fiercely guarded their independence and are willing to use violence to protect their way of life.
