Locusts Invade Farms In Embu

It is now the Embu locusts’ edition!

Desert locusts are now camping in parts of Embu County already crops and vegetation sitting on close 700 acres of land -in Mbeere reported to have been destroyed.

Places affected include Masinga where farmers are crying to the relevant agencies to help in countering the pests.

Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna assured the residents plans are in place to deploy nine aircraft into the area to spray the locusts.

“We are well equipped to deal with this menace and we shall succeed,” Cyrus Oguna.

Other localities are Ndunduri, Manyata, Kathangiriri and Gicherori villages. In the villages piled onbtea plantations but could not survive the chilly weather migrating to the nearby villages.

“The insects left because they could not survive the chilly weather,” a local observed.

The locusts are said to have invaded from My Kenya.

Recent invasions have been in Kirinyaga, Kitui, Murang’a, Kiambu, Baringo and ,among others, Machakos.
