Narok County senator Ledama Ole Kina has been freed on bond after hours of grilling by detectives from DCI following his arrest on Tuesday.
The senator was arrested following outrage by a section of Kenyans who termed his address during the BBI meeting in Narok as tribalistic and with purpose to nourish divisions in the country.
The legislator allegedly called out non-Maasai members who looked forward to inhabiting the region while locals suffer in poverty, that suggesting the outsiders had no room in the county and he would personally fight to see the tracts of land belonging to locals are “safeguarded” from “Intruders”.
The arrest came a day after the DCI chiefs in Narok summoned the senator though later cancelling the summon.
“Arrested. I will pursue justice for the rest of my life. That is the kind of liberty I want to defend. That is why I’m here,” the senator said after the arrest.
He will be arraigned in court on March 4 to face charges of hate speech and ethnic contempt.
