Kakamega Corpse Protests Burial Over Unpaid Dowry

Mourners in Shamberere village in Kakamega County were on Saturday treated to puzzle after a body of woman objected to any attempts of having it laid to rest.

The deceased, identified as Night Makunda, could not give in to the many pleas made by the elders and religious leaders after her body could not enter the grave.

Her relatives tried to engage and appease her spirits so that she could be buried but that still did not work. After several efforts to “consult” her it was discovered that she was unhappy with the fact that during her lifetime, her husband had not paid for her dowry.

After the random talks, the husband agreed that he will pay the dowry even in her absence and it is at that point that the deceased became calm and allowed her burial rituals to go on.
