Family in Nyandarua Uses Cartons as Face Masks

A family in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County has been forced to use cartons and sacks designed as face masks to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

63-year old Mary Muthoni said that she had no money to buy face masks for her eight children and grandchildren. She added that her family members no longer do menial jobs that sustained them prior to the coronavirus. They are now staring at possible starvation.

The report, which aired on Citizen TV showed some of the grandchildren wearing pieces of sacks and other cartons fastened to with strips.

The family resorted to boiling water for dinner and is now unsure of where to find the next meal. A similar occurrence happened in Mombasa county where a woman resorted to boiling stones in order for her children to sleep on empty stomachs.
