Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has resurfaced after being immersed in the political cold for quite a long time after losing the Mombasa gubernatorial contest to Hassan Joho.
Hassan who had served at some point as Wiper Party’s Secretary-General had met Nyali MP Mohamed Ali before setting out to Karen to meet the Deputy President William Ruto.
The once vocal politician ditched the Wiper Party to join Jubilee ahead of the 2017 general vote when he sought to unseat Governor Joho, the latter winning big time.
His ‘resurrection’ follows the death of Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori thus having many speculate the DP may be looking forward to fielding him seeking to succeed the late Dori who died on Monday, March 9.
DP Ruto may use that, if it really happens, to gauge the support he has in the constituency that in turn being emblematic of the whole coastal region.
Mohamed Ali has been on record vowing to marshal the electorate in coast to rally behind the DP in the 2022 vote and thus having the former senator on board tends to be a plus to his (Ali’s) efforts to vouch for the deputy president in the region.
Omar joining Ruto’s camp stands to give Joho and the allies a run for their money as they struggle to maintain the Raila Odinga factor across the region. With Mohammed Ali has been the outspoken Aisha Jumwa who has also vowed to drum support for the DP.
