Blood-Stained Mercedes Found As Boyfriend Arrested in Murder of Kenyatta University Student After Coffee Date

Detectives have arrested Jesse Wafula Wakukha, the boyfriend of 36-year-old Kenyatta University student June Jerop Kangogo, who was found murdered two days after going on a coffee date with him. Wafula was arrested on March 24 at Landi Mawe in Industrial Area after detectives traced Jerop’s last movements and conversations before she went missing. Allan Wafula and Timothy Masika have also been arrested for aiding in the investigation.

According to reports, detectives investigating Jerop’s killing discovered that she was picked up from her apartment in South B by Wafula, who was driving a Mercedes Benz, on March 19. The CCTV footage showed the deceased purchasing what appeared to be medicine from a pharmacy in Imara Daima later that day. Wafula is believed to have used his vehicle to ferry and dispose of Jerop’s body near Jamhuri Primary School, where it was discovered. The Mercedes Benz had traces of blood all over, and samples were taken for a DNA test to establish if it matched with that of the deceased.

Joyce Jepkemoi, Jerop’s elder sister, revealed that the family last spoke to her on March 17, two days before she was last seen. “We assumed that the battery on her phone had run out of power (and) we thought that she would send the money on Monday morning. That morning, my mother called telling me that she had tried to reach Jerop, but her phone was still switched off,” said Jepkemoi. After her phone remained off for several days, the family filed a missing person report and began a search. On March 24, they discovered that Jerop had been taken to Nairobi’s City Mortuary by police officers.
