Armed ‘Suicidal’ Man Shot Near White House, Suspect Hospitalized
US Secret Service agents shot an armed man near the White House late last night, according to an official statement released early Sunday. The incident occurred while President Donald Trump was spending the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
Local police had warned that a “suicidal” man traveling from Indiana was headed toward Washington, and officers located his parked vehicle near 17th and F Streets, just steps away from the White House. Shortly after, agents identified an individual matching the description provided by the police. As Secret Service personnel approached the suspect, he brandished a firearm. In response, agents fired shots at close range using what is believed to be a small-caliber pistol.
Government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor later confirmed that the 26-year-old, identified as the victim, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the stomach and died from blood loss. Gun pellets and plastic fragments were recovered from the body during the postmortem examination, corroborating the use of a firearm.
No injuries were reported among Secret Service agents. The suspect was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where his condition remains unknown. Washington police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The incident unfolded amidst chaotic protests at the Majengo estate following the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy earlier in the area, further heightening security concerns around the nation’s capital.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine whether the attack was specifically aimed at the White House or if the target was someone else. The conflicting reports—initially suggesting the victim was stabbed—have now been clarified by the autopsy results.
This latest development underscores the heightened security challenges in Washington and raises questions about the measures in place to protect sensitive areas near the White House.
