A Nairobi Resident Moves To Court To Challenge The Transfer Of Nairobi County Functions To The National Government

A Nairobi voter has moved to court to block the agreement reached between the Nairobi County Government of Nairobi and the National Government for the latter to oversee the county’s key functions.

Identified as Robin Karani, the voter has moved to court to challenge the pact citing the public was not given any rational opportunity to have a say over the matter.

Sonko signed the agreement on Tuesday with the Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa in the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Among the functions transferred to the national government include health, transport, public works, ancillary, and planning and development among others.

Sonko currently faces an ouster in the county assembly having till Monday, March 1 to defend himself against the claims leading to the impeachment motion.

The central government said the agreement was reached so as Nairobians could get their deserved services efficiently which came to a halt after Sonko’s arrest, arraignment in court, and later the governor being barred from office.
